Ford Ranger is Coming Back to the US - 08/26/2015

Ford Ranger is Coming Back to the US

WESTLAND, Mich. – Pickup truck fanatics everywhere, put on your party hats. According to inside sources familiar with Ford Motor Co.’s plans, the Ford Ranger is coming back to the U.S. to be manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne.

Ford is negotiating a contract with the United Auto Workers to manufacture the acclaimed midsize pickup in 2018. Ford’s board of directors and the union will solidify plans once they reach an agreement.

To the chagrin of truck fans across America, Ranger production in the U.S. ended in 2011 when the last model rolled of the defunct Twin Cities Assembly Plant in Minnesota. Ford manufactures the 2016 Ranger in South Africa, Argentina, Thailand, and Nigeria for 180 overseas markets, however, importing the pickup to the U.S. would come with a 25% tariff called the “chicken tax,” which explains the lack of Rangers you see on the road.

At the core of the discussion is whether or not the Ranger would be a fitting vehicle for the plant and its 4,500 workers to manufacture in lieu of the Ford Focus and C-Max, which would be moved down to Mexico. The Ford Ranger coming back to the U.S. would help the automaker compete against sales of the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, and Nissan Frontier in an emerging midsize truck segment. It would also help Ford meet the federal government’s increasing fuel-economy standards for fleets.

You know how excited we get about new Ford cars and especially new Ford trucks. If the Ranger makes its way back home, you can bet we’d have an entire lot devoted to the best midsize truck we’ve ever seen manufactured. In the meantime, stop by our Canton area used car dealer and see if we have any classic Rangers in our inventory of used cars and trucks.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Is Straight Up Vicious on Trails - 08/25/2015

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Is Straight Up Vicious on Trails

WESTLAND, Mich. – Since its inception, the Ford Raptor has torn its competition to pieces with incredible off-roading capabilities, speed, and sharp looks, but the 2017 F-150 Raptor might double that damage. After checking out some trail testing videos, the only way to describe the latest edition of Ford Motor Co.’s most intimidating truck is that the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is straight up vicious on trails.

Ford spent time testing a new prototype of the truck  – made of components from the 2015 F-150 and the 2017 Raptor – and conquered some of the toughest trails in Northern Michigan. What makes the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is straight up vicious on trails begins with its ability to roar over seemingly insurmountable hills, ruts, and other obstructions that tend to be difficult for other pickups.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Is Straight Up Vicious on Trails

The 2017 F-150 Raptor is better equipped for rough terrain thanks to its increased ground clearance compared to the first generation Raptor, plus 3.0-inch FOX Racing Shox with custom internal bypass technology. According to Ford, the shock absorption technology diminishes and strengthens suspension travel over sketchy terrain.

In addition, the 2017 F-150 Raptor bulldozes over tough landscapes with an all-new four-wheel-drive, torque-on-demand transfer case. The Transfer case handles power dispersion throughout the front and rear wheels, and blends hallmarks of clutch-driven, on-demand all-wheel drive with mechanical-locking four-wheel drive.

If you're imagining yourself stampeding over unforgiving terrain in the 2017 F-150 Raptor, you only need to hold out a little longer – You can test-drive the all-new pickup in fall 2016. Until then, stop in at our used car dealership serving Garden City, MI, where we have plenty of new Ford trucks and Certified Pre-Owned vehicles

The Difference Between Buying Versus Leasing Your Next Vehicle - 08/20/2015

The Difference Between Buying Versus Leasing Your Next Vehicle

WESTLAND, Mich. – We’ve filled you in on the difference between buying a new or used car, but do you know the difference between buying versus leasing your next vehicle? There are a number of factors to consider before making your decision, so let’s get on with it.

If you buy your next vehicle…

  • Get used to driving only that vehicle for a long period of time – let’s say 60 months. 60 months might not sound so bad – “It’s only 5 years,” you say – but don’t forget that also means you’ll pay the same rate for that one vehicle as it depreciates and loses value over time.

  • You can always sell it or trade it into a dealership. However, don’t expect to get back what you paid for. It’s common knowledge that vehicles tend to depreciate by $9,000 every five years.

  • You’ll either have to pay in full or finance it. Financing can get pricey, depending on your credit history, how much you put down on the vehicle, and whether or not the vehicle is new or used. A typical rate could be around 4.99%, which could be a little steep for some drivers.

  • Don’t forget it’s a finite machine and will wear after thousands of miles. You should expect to pay for regular maintenance along the way when you own a car – oil changes, tire replacements, and brake replacements to name a few – but don’t disregard the fact that by 30,000–50,000 miles your vehicle might need some major repairs or updates.

  • You can’t shirk the responsibilities attached with owning a vehicle. If you buy, you need to be willing to shoulder more of the burden of maintaining your vehicle, but that also means your vehicle belongs to you. Ownership can be freeing feeling.

If you lease your next vehicle…

  • You can get a new one in another two years. Sticking to a timeframe of 60 months, you could drive 2.5 vehicles in the same amount of time as buying one vehicle. Imagine always driving vehicles with the newest design, technology, and safety features.

  • You can still use a trade-in to put money towards your lease. There are also programs where you can roll your existing lease into a new one and possibly receive a discount or avoid fees for going over miles.

  • You’ll have to adhere to the mileage policy you agree to. The more miles you want to use in a year, the more you pay monthly. If you agree to a 12,000-mile allowance per year, you’re expected not to go over.

  • The dealership will cover most of your maintenance for the entire term, including free oil changes and other regular services. You also won’t have extra repair costs that lie under the vehicle’s warranty for the entire term. Now, isn’t that convenient?

  • You’re responsible for enjoying your vehicle and making sure it stays in good condition. The dealership takes care of the big stuff so you don’t have to, and you definitely won’t need to worry about your vehicle reaching a point where it could undergo some major repairs – You’ll have a new vehicle by then.

And the winner is…
It all depends on what you value in a vehicle and how much effort you want to put into caring for it. If you enjoy ownership and sense you might feel pressured under a lease, maybe you should consider buying your next vehicle. If owning a vehicle sounds like too much work and, frankly, you don’t want to drive an older car in a few years, consider leasing your next vehicle. Both options are great depending on who you are as a driver, but the important thing is you understand the difference between buying versus leasing your next vehicle before you make a decision.

If you want more information on the difference between buying and leasing your next vehicle, stop in at our Garden City area used car dealer where one of our knowledgeable associates would be happy to sit down and help you decide. Or, feel free to ask us a question at our Buying vs. Leasing page! If you're leaning more towards leasing, come to our Secrets of Leasing event to have all of your burning questions answered!

Ford Vehicles of All Sizes Can Withstand Subzero Temperatures - 08/18/2015

Ford Vehicles of All Sizes Can Withstand Subzero Temperatures

WESTLAND, Mich. – Each year, Ford Motor Co. exposes every one of its 75 global prototype vehicles to brutally frigid temperatures and observes how they cope through a series of tests at McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida panhandle. In a demonstration of durable design and quality manufacturing, Ford vehicles of all sizes can withstand subzero temperatures.

The U.S. military’s all-weather laboratory simulates extreme climates and weather conditions, and enables Ford to examine how well its vehicles operate in temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit, despite its location in a state stereotyped as a tropical paradise.

Ford finds it necessary to test its vehicles against such harsh conditions because it values its customers that live and work in extreme climates present in areas such as Alaska and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in Canada.

In the isolated far north, it’s vital for Ford customers to have access to vehicles they can trust won’t stall or fail to start because of low temperatures. These customers also need vehicles that act as refuges from bitter weather that can cause serious injuries.

It’s certain that Ford vehicles of all sizes can withstand subzero temperatures after the rigorous tests that take place at McKinley, where engineers make daily changes to the temperature to guarantee Ford vehicles can buck the cold. These tests led Ford engineers to fine-tune the F-Series Super Duty’s 6.7L engine after finding that ceramic gold plugs generate heat quicker than metallic plugs, aiding the engine’s ability to start in cold temperatures.

Add the ability to conquer the most unwelcoming climates to your list of reasons for why you should buy one of Ford’s super-machines. While we might not be as north as Alaska or Yellowknife, you know what it’s like to experience Michigan’s oppressive winters. At our Westland area used car dealer we see the Ford vehicles on our lot fight through till spring each year, and we know for a fact that these Ford vehicles are as durable as they come.

Ford F-650 and F-750 Production Creates 1,000 Jobs for Ohio - 08/13/2015

Ford F-650 and F-750 Production Creates 1,000 Jobs for Ohio

WESTLAND, Mich. – Large American corporations have received plenty of flak over the years for unabashedly moving their production overseas or across the border to Mexico, and Ford has followed suit in some ways.

However, it makes us proud to hear news that Ford F-650 and F-750 production will create 1,000 jobs for Ohio now that the automaker has moved manufacturing of its medium-duty trucks from south of the border to Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio.

America’s best-selling commercial trucks for the last 30 years rolled off the line for the first time in the United States on August 12, 2015. Their production is the impetus for over 1,000 hourly UAW jobs and a U.S. plant investment of $168 million. Ford also furnished the plant with new body shop equipment and necessary tooling for Ford F-650 and F-750 production that will create 1,000 jobs for Ohio.

The F-650 and F-750 are available in Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab body styles and in straight-frame, dock-height, and a tractor model good for heavy towing. Both trucks also contain a diesel engine and transmission combination designed and built by Ford, something no other truck manufacturer accomplishes on its own.

Ford is also the only automaker to make available a gasoline-powered engine for its pickups in the medium-duty truck segment. In addition, the F-650 and F-750 have a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine option, and a 6.8-liter V10 option with 320 horsepower and 460 pounds per feet of torque.

How exciting that Ford chose to bring home production of the toughest, smartest, best-value Ford medium-duty trucks ever. Over 1,000 people are now employed in Ohio, and Ford has once again proven its commitment to quality American manufacturing. To keep up the quality of your Ford vehicle, make sure you stop in for regular auto service like getting an oil change, new tires, or any other car repairs taken care of at our used car dealership serving Canton, Mich.

Ford Shows Support in many ways towards US Military Veterans - 08/11/2015

Ford Shows Support in many ways towards US Military Veterans

WESTLAND, Mich. – Ninety-three years ago, Henry Ford arranged a convoy of 50 Model T vehicles to chauffeur countless military veterans across the country to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) National Convention in San Francisco.

It was in 1922 that the father of the automotive industry first publicly acknowledged his value in America’s military through this grandiose but gratuitous act of assistance to veterans. In 2015, Ford Motor Co. shows support in many ways towards U.S. military veterans and continues its founder's legacy of philanthropy.

Since 1996, Ford has donated 199 vehicles to the DAV fleet that helps disabled veterans get where they need to be. Recently, Ford added to that number and donated 7 Flex utility vehicles that will be used by the DAV in Little Rock, Ark.; Iowa City, Iowa; Iron Mountain, Mich.; Omaha, Neb.; Portland, Ore.; Salt Lake City; and Seattle.

In addition to donating 7 Flex utility vehicles to the DAV, Ford Fund – Ford’s philanthropic wing – will sponsor DAV 5k walks in Atlanta, Cincinnati, and San Diego. Plus, Ford Fund will continue to finance the Jesse Brown Memorial Youth Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to young men and women who step forward to help disabled veterans in their communities.

Other ways Ford shows support towards U.S. military veterans include their support this past spring for the DAV Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass, Colo. Ford also plans to partner with Project SNAP to bring veterans and their communities together to create artful messages of thanks to active military members that will join this year’s Operation Grateful Nation mural – last year’s artwork is on display at the Pentagon.

Additionally, Ford worked with National Veterans Transition Services, Inc. to develop the Freedom’s Sisters REBOOT Workshop that assists women veterans as they transition from military to civilian culture.

Ford Fund is also a large sponsor of Honor Flights, which carry World War II veterans to the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. To further honor World War II veterans, Ford paid special tribute to them at this year’s Ford Fireworks in Detroit, which included a flyover by vintage World War II-era planes.

As you can see, Ford and Ford Fund pay special attention to America's men and women who serve in or who are veterans of the U.S. military. Since 1974, Ford has donated close to $9.3 million to veteran’s organizations, and now employs over 7,000 veterans and hundreds of active military personnel, reservists, and guardsmen.

Ford's deep commitment to others translates to what we do at our dealership for our customers. We want to make sure your vehicles functions at its best. Stop in at our Garden City area used car dealer to get the auto service your vehicle needs to keep driving Ford tough!

The Difference Between Buying a New Car Versus a Used Car - 08/05/2015

The Difference Between Buying a New or Used Car

WESTLAND, Mich.– Much like the debate over whether you should buy or lease a vehicle, you might also grapple with the difference between buying a new car versus a used car. Off the top of your head, you can probably think of a number of factors that go into this decision such as cost, technology, and repairs. But the questions you really want to answer ask how exactly those factors set apart the new from the used.

What does each cost?
More often than not, a new car will be pricier than a used car. This is because new vehicles tend to include newer technology, updated features, and modern design elements. However, if keeping up with automotive trends isn’t a priority for you, consider the fact that buying a used car will save you money due to its lack of contemporary features.

What are the differences in financing?
Interest rates hinge on a car’s resale value. It’s easier for a bank to predict how much a new car will depreciate compared to a used car (within 5 years new cars can depreciate by $9,000). Used cars come with higher interest rates than new cars do because they're more prone to major mechanical issues. Then there's the risk of a buyer who decides to bail on their used car purchase and leaves it for the bank to deal with a resale. A lender can make up for the uncertain resale value of a used car by hiking up the interest rate. However, despite used cars having higher interest rates, you still end up paying less in monthly payments because the cars principal is much lower than that of a new car.

How’s the gas mileage?
People really, really care about their gas mileage these days––you know how pricy the pumps can be. Of course, getting better fuel economy can be one of the perks of purchasing a new car. New cars usually get better gas mileage than used cars because, again, new cars tend to have updated technology. If you want to save money at the pump, a new car is your best bet.

Which costs more to insure?
Naturally, new cars cost more to insure than used cars do. Although new cars usually contain more updated safety features than used cars do, the higher cost of insurance for new cars is due to their overall higher value. The higher the value of the car, the more it costs to insure.

How much does maintenance and repairs cost?
A big chunk of a new car’s price tag includes a warranty that covers maintenance and repairs for a set amount of time. The great thing about a warranty is that you know most maintenance and repairs for are covered by the dealership or original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Just remember that eventually that warranty will disappear. Sometimes used cars come with warranties as well. These are called certified pre-owned vehicles, and you might consider this as an option for your next purchase. Aside from certified pre-owned vehicles, most used cars are more likely than new cars to require maintenance and repairs, which means you’ll end up paying more in that area. Then again, sometimes you get lucky and find a used car that runs forever without any major issues.

There are a number of important factors to ponder over when you look at the difference between buying a new car versus a used car. Hopefully this list breaks down some of the bigger differences for you, but feel free to come into our Plymouth area used car dealer with any other questions you might have. We'd be happy to give you the rundown on some of our used cars and trucks, and explain what makes them different from our new Ford cars and new Ford trucks. Either way, we’ll help you find the vehicle that’s right for you!

BraunAbility to Make Ford Explorer First Wheelchair-Accessible SUV - 07/28/2015

BraunAbility to Make Ford Explorer First Wheelchair-Accessible SUV

WESTLAND, Mich.– There couldn’t be a better way to mark the 25th year of the Americans with Disabilities Act than for BraunAbility to make the Ford Explorer the first wheelchair-accessible SUV.

BraunAbility, a world leader in the mobility business, will produce a wheelchair accessible vehicle, the MXV, on the foundation of the Ford Explorer. The MXV will provide convenience to wheelchair users as well as many of the great features included in Ford’s best-selling sport utility vehicle, making it the ultimate wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

Starting Aug. 4, BraunAbility will manufacture the MXV in its 170,000-square-foot facility in Winamac, IN, and by the early fall you’ll be able to purchase the MXV at over 200 U.S. BraunAbility mobility dealers.

BraunAbility unveiled the MXV concept vehicle earlier this year in Daytona, Florida, and promised the first production MXV would be donated to wounded veteran and United States Marine Mike Delancey, who was paralyzed by a sniper’s bullet while serving in Iraq in 2006. Don't you think it’s exciting that Ford gets to play a huge part in improving the mobility of men and women like Delancey?

Plans for BraunAbility to make the Ford Explorer the first wheelchair-accessible SUV means the MXV will come packed with technology from both companies. In regards to wheelchair accessibility, the MXV will include

  • Patented sliding-door technology
  • Removable driver and passenger seats
  • A powered and lighted in-floor ramp
  • Plenty of maneuvering space for wheelchairs

By using the Ford Explorer as the foundation of the MXV, the wheelchair-accessible SUV will also provide impressive performance features, including like a 3.5-liter V6 engine; an EPA-estimated rating of 17 miles per gallon city, 24 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined; and a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.

You don’t normally see wheelchair-accessible vehicles that look and perform like a quality sport utility vehicle such as the Ford Explorer, but evidently that’s about to change. When it comes down to it, you know BraunAbility chose the Ford Explorer as the base for its MXV because it’s a well-known fact that Ford makes quality vehicles. 2015 Ford F-150, Expedition and C-MAX Win J.D. Power Segment-Level Awards - 07/23/2015

WESTLAND, Mich.– If you haven’t noticed, Ford is on a roll and hasn’t had any trouble raking in awards for safety and satisfaction from the likes of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and AutoPacific, respectively. The automaker recently garnered more recognition when the 2015 Ford F-150, Expedition and C-MAX won J.D. Power segment-level awards.

The rankings– derived from the most recent J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study– indicate the three Ford vehicles led their segments. If anything, this bolsters Ford’s position as America’s most reliable automaker that strives to produce quality vehicles.

For the second year in a row, the 2015 F-150 received the topmost award for the Large LightDuty Pickup segment. The 2015 Expedition was rated highest in the Large SUV segment and the 2015 C-MAX earned the Compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle Award.

This marked the 20th year for the J.D. Power APEAL study, which is considered the best system to measure how much appeal a new vehicle brings to consumers based on how rewarding it is to own and drive it. To gauge the comprehensive value of their vehicles, owners look at 77 aspects that blend to make an overall APEAL Index score that is measured on a 1000-point scale.

The 2015 Ford F-150, Expedition and C-MAX won J.D. Power segment-level awards and earned a total brand score of 798, a 9-point improvement from last year that levels out with the industry average. Thanks to the improved numbers, Ford’s new vehicle APEAL Index score trumps the ratings of competitors like Chevrolet, Dodge and Chrysler.

With a flood of awards and new vehicles, and a deeper devotion to societal and technological research, it’s safe to say Ford is breaking new ground in the auto industry. If you’re like us, we’ve come to expect great things from Ford, and so far they’ve continually exceed those expectations. The most obvious evidence of this is with the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Ford dealership serving Westland, MI. Come see for yourself!

Ford Headlight Technology Will Make Driving At Night Safer - 07/22/2015

Ford Headlight Technology Will Make Driving At Night Safer

WESTLAND, Mich.– Driving at night can be a mysterious experience riddled with anxiety as you scan the limited stretch of illuminated road in front of your vehicle for late night joggers, dog walkers or the naïve deer loping across a four-lane highway.

Thankfully, you’ll soon be unburdened of that stress and Ford headlight technology will make driving at night safer with the automaker’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System and Spot Lighting. These new technologies stem from Ford’s already advanced Adaptive Front Lighting System and Traffic Sign Recognition, systems available in current Ford models.

Ford’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System broadens your headlight beams at crossroads and roundabouts to expose normally unobservable objects that lie outside your vehicle’s path at night. The system also predicts bends and depressions in a road via GPS, and allows your headlights to adjust their beams accordingly.

Unfortunately, the powers of GPS can be fickle, but Ford has a backup plan. A forward-facing video camera in the rear-view mirror base can discern lane markings and anticipate the contours of a road for you, then stockpile that information for next time so you’re safely guided on your route. So even if GPS fails you, Ford headlight technology will make driving at night safer.

Ford’s other headlight technology, Spot Lighting, gives you a heads up about objects in your vehicle’s path or just outside it using an infrared camera in your vehicle’s grille that is capable of identifying and tracking up to eight people or large animals from a distance of 360 feet.

In addition, the system will spotlight hazards on the road with a spot and stripe on the road illuminated by two LED lamps beside the fog lights. The spotlighted objects are signified by a red or yellow box on your vehicle’s dash screen according to their proximity to you.

For now Ford’s headlight technology is still under development and testing in Europe, but it’s obvious that these systems will increase your safety once they’re road-ready. You may already pay extra attention to the road when the sun goes down, but in reality you're never fully aware of your surroundings at night, a time when hazards lurk behind sudden curves or on the dark edge of a road.

While you wait on Ford's new headlight technology to hit production, you can see the amount of research and development they put into manufacturing safe, quality vehicles, such as the 5-star safety rated 2015 Ford Edge, by checking out the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Taylor area Ford dealer.

Ford Makes Carbon Fiber Wheel for Shelby GT350R Mustang - 07/15/2015

Ford Makes Carbon Fiber Wheel for Shelby GT350R Mustang

WESTLAND, Mich.– When you’re driving the highest performing track-ready pony cars in existence, you’re going to want a set of reliable wheels that can handle the intensity, which is why Ford makes carbon fiber wheels for the Shelby GT350R Mustang.

Aftermarket companies have been producing carbon fiber wheels for years, but Ford has been toying around with the idea of becoming the first automotive manufacturer to mass-produce carbon fiber wheels for a while now and its ready to debut the development with the GT350R.

Considering the intensity of the GT350R, Ford coats its carbon fiber wheels with the same ceramic plasma arc spray used on the Space Shuttle. This coating creates a barrier of thermal protection that prevents brake heat from taking a toll on the wheel, and also provides an attractive finish.

Style and thermal protection are assets of Ford’s carbon fiber technology, but the wheels also improve suspension response times, chassis performance, weight reduction, and handling. Ford rigorously tests its carbon fiber wheels to ensure they perform according to these aspects and meet its strict guidelines for durability, quality, craftsmanship and finish, so you know they make for a great ride.

All Ford wheels undergo harsh tests that include curb strikes, UV and chemical exposure and blistering heat, but the GT350R’s new carbon fiber wheels have a strengthened defense system against these things thanks to their stiffness, light weight and resilience.

How Ford makes carbon fiber wheels for the Shelby GT350R Mustang may mislead you to think the process is simple, but we guarantee there was a great deal of science and experimentation that went into developing strength and dependability.

An RFID chip, with a unique number tracked by a quality assurance system, is inserted into a premade structure of woven carbon fiber strands, after which the structure is infused with resin and cured at high temperatures. A high-gloss black coating adds extra protection against heat, and gives the wheels a stylish look.

This process creates one whole structure and eliminates the need to bond and weld disparate parts together to form a structure, which is what makes Ford’s carbon fiber wheels so much more durable than typical aluminum wheels. While you may not own a Shelby GT350R Mustang, the only available model that currently sports Ford’s carbon fiber wheels, you can find similar lasting durability in the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Redford Area Ford Dealer!

2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty Earn Vehicle Satisfaction Awards - 07/10/2015

2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty Earn Vehicle Satisfaction Awards

WESTLAND, Mich.– Once again, Ford is being recognized for producing vehicles of exceptional quality. This time around the 2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty earned Vehicle Satisfaction Awards from AutoPacific, an automotive research and consulting company.

AutoPacific gave the F-150 the Vehicle Satisfaction Award for light-duty pickups, and recognized the pickup as having the second-highest owner score ever and the highest truck rating ever. This adds to the F-150’s reputation for best-in-class towing, payload and EPA-estimated gasoline fuel economy, as well as obtaining a five-star government safety rating.

The group awarded the F-Series Super Duty the Vehicle Satisfaction Award for heavy-duty pickups. The Super Duty is already recognized for best-in-class diesel power and standard torque, and the F-350 Super Duty recently earned the Edmunds.com 2015 Best Retained Value Heavy Duty Truck award.

The Vehicle Satisfaction Awards look at the big picture, including owners’ experiences with overall quality and safety, but it goes deeper than that,” said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. “We also take into account the heart of the ownership experience to determine those vehicles that are extremely satisfying to their owners.”

To determine that the 2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty should earn Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, AutoPacific left the decision to truck owners. AutoPacific weighed drivers’ satisfaction with their trucks based on how they responded to 50 unique vehicle attributes associated with their truck, such as fuel economy, performance, interior comfort and styling.

After winning these Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, the Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty confirm our belief that Ford makes the most popular trucks of the highest quality in the world. If you still don’t believe us, explain why U.S. military members love Ford trucks! Or you can come see for yourself and test drive one of the New Ford Trucks or New Ford Cars at our Canton Area Ford Dealer– we’d love for you to!

Ford to Teach Teens Safe Driving Techniques - 07/07/2015

Ford to Teach Teens Safe Driving Techniques

WESTLAND, Mich.– Automotive innovation and technology, city planning, strategizing for the global future– after doing so much outside of manufacturing vehicles, one might ask what more Ford could do.

It looks like the next logical step is for Ford to teach teens safe driving techniques at the first ever Driving Skills for Life summer camp, which will tour six states beginning on July 7, in Fargo, N.D. before travelling to Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming into August. Each camp stop will be a total of four half-day sessions that include a DSFL curriculum of vehicle handling, hazard recognition, speed management and space management.

The six states chosen for the Driving Skills for Life summer camp ranked highest for high school teens ages 16 years or older to drink and drive, and, according to the CDC, teen drivers are three times more likely than experienced drivers to die in a motor vehicle accident, also the biggest cause of death for American teens.

Ford is partnering with the Governors Highway Safety Association to run the DSFL summer camp tour during a time of the year when teens are most likely to get in accidents. Giving teen drivers the knowledge they need to drive safe during a season of heightened accidents could be a strategic move to decrease teen driving accidents.

No one asked Ford to teach teens safe driving techniques, but the company has carved out time to imbue teens with knowledge like how you should handle your vehicle on slick pavement or what you can do if an object or animal suddenly comes into view in front of your moving vehicle. Ford will also cover the dangers of driving under the influence by letting teens experience simulated impairment through goggles and a special suit.

Teens are the focus of DSFL, but Ford wants parents to come out with their teens as well. No matter what age or how experience you are as a driver, you can always learn something new or correct bad driving habits through activities like hands-on ride-and-drive courses and helpful classroom material like that offered by Ford with DSFL.

Although DSFL won’t be in our area, we’re happy to see Ford branching out and spending time in states that need a little extra help getting their teens to drive safe. While Ford has produced vehicles that receive top-government safety ratings like the 2015 Ford Edge, their presence in so many other areas outside of manufacturing makes us appreciate the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Garden City Area Ford Dealer even more!

Mustang Gallops Ahead of Competition in 2015 Sales Race - 07/01/2015

Mustang Gallops Ahead of Competition in 2015 Sales Race

WESTLAND, Mich.– The Chevrolet Camaro has held the top-sales position in its segment for the last six years, but that hasn’t deterred pony car enthusiasts from purchasing the 2015 Ford Mustang.

After a sales increase of 55 percent this year the Mustang galloped ahead of competition in the 2015 sales race, pulling ahead of the Chevy Camaro and the Dodge Challenger.

Ford sold 56,571 Mustangs through May 2015, compared to 33,938 Camaro sales and 30,166 Challenger sales, according to Autodata Corp. The 2015 Mustang’s high sales can be attributed to its 50th-anniversary redesign and the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that equips it with 310 horsepower and helps it achieve 32 miles per gallon on the highway.

What might surprise you is who the big buyers are who helped the Mustang gallop ahead of competition in the 2015 sales race. According to Ford, 35 percent of Mustang buyers this year were millennials, many of whom reside in Southern California where Mustang sales are up 117 percent.

Ford expects the Mustang to have a 40 percent sales increase for June, based on the overall increase in sales this year, which would bring the pony car even closer to being its segment’s best seller for the first time in six years.

While the Mustang may have the lead in sales, some speculate the 2016 Camaro and its convertible counterpart, set to debut in spring 2016, could make for rocky competition. However, we think you should stay confident that Ford’s pony will keep its lead in this race– they didn’t name it the Mustang for nothing!

Like always, Ford has proven itself through sales numbers that speak volumes about the quality and appeal of its vehicles. Come see the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Ford Dealership Serving Plymouth, MI, and you’ll see what we mean!

How to Make Sure Your Steak is Done this Fourth of July - 06/30/2015

How to Make Sure Your Steak is Done this Fourth of July

WESTLAND, Mich.– Summer in general is a season for grilling, but holidays like Independence Day are when Americans really like to show off their tong-handling, meat-searing, steak-flipping skills. Regardless of how slick you are with the grill tools, it’s vital that you know how to make sure your steak is done this Fourth of July before serving it to anyone. Here are some tips:

Rare Steak
Some are puzzled by others’ affinity for undercooked meat, but you or someone you know might be the guy celebrating the Fourth of July with a hunk of red meat on their plate. To test for a properly cooked rare steak, form a circle with your index finger and thumb. With your other index finger press the palm under your thumb. Yup, that’s what a rare steak feels like!

Medium-Rare Steak
This one is just as simple. Make a circle with your middle finger and thumb, and press the palm under your thumb. Are you starting to see a pattern here?

Medium Steak
You guessed it: Make a circle with your ring finger and thumb. Press the palm. There’s your medium steak.

Well-Done Steak
Bet you’re expecting a curveball with this one. Well, you’re wrong, we’re sticking with the same pattern. Make a circle with your pinky and thumb– press and feel the toughness of a well-done steak.

Regardless of what secret rub recipe you’ve concocted and love to brag about, despite your shiny new grill and aside from your tong-mastery, to be a true grill master you need to know how to make sure your steak is done this Fourth of July the way your guests like it!

If you're a Ford driver, you already have an eye for great vehicles like the New Ford Vehicles and Used Vehicles at our Westland Ford Dealership, so all you have to do is carry that over to the grill to spot when a steak is ready to serve!

New Ford MoDe:Flex Electric Bike Makes City Living Easy - 06/26/2015

New Ford MoDe:Flex Electric Bike Makes City Living Easy

WESTLAND, Mich.– Ford is obviously known best as an automotive manufacturer, but it also understands the importance of adaptability and is searching for solutions outside the bounds of its automotive territory that could improve livability in urban settings with increasing population.

The new Ford MoDe:Flex electric bike makes city living easy and is one of Ford's most impressive solutions for those who live in dense urban places where it's difficult to own or drive a vehicle. The newest Ford eBike and its prototype smartphone app make daily travel, such as commuting to and from work, feasible for city dwellers.

As Ford’s third and most functional eBike, MoDe:Flex has the ability to adjust to customers’ specific needs. The center frame assembly consists of a motor and battery to assist riders, and the front and rear assemblies and wheels can be adjusted for road, mountain or city riding. Transporting the MoDe:Flex when you’re not riding it is easy, as it folds and fits inside any Ford vehicle, where it can charge while stowed.

Similar to the MoDe:Me and MoDe:Pro eBikes Ford debuted in March 2015,  the new Ford MoDe:Flex electric bike makes city living easy by syncing with the MoDe:Link app on an eBike rider’s smartphone. The app forwards important information concerning weather, congestion, parking prices, time, traffic and public transportation to ensure their journey is efficient, cost-effective and safe.

A new extension of MoDe:Link for the smartwatch puts all of this real-time data and functionality on an eBike rider’s wrist, and includes features like the “no sweat” mode, which boosts electric pedal assist based on the rider’s heart rate and keeps them sweat-free. Other functions of the MoDe:Link smartwatch extension include safety notifications such as vibrating handlebars and beeping to indicate upcoming potholes in the rider’s path.

Ford doesn’t want MoDe:Flex to just serve as a piece of equipment used by commuters– the automaker is also experimenting with ways in which urban centers can use sensors on bikes to collect data about traffic patterns, pedestrians and road conditions. City planners could use that data to detect patterns and better bike lanes through urban landscapes, while riders could benefit from insights on the best or worst routes to take.

Ford’s development of the MoDe:Flex eBike may seem peculiar at first, but when you think about their goal to improve humanity through technology it makes sense why they would create room in their project space for two-wheeled machines. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll sell eBikes on the same lot as the New Ford Vehicles and Used Vehicles at our Westland Ford Dealership!

Ford Moves Closer to Autonomous Vehicle Development - 06/23/2015

Ford Moves Closer to Autonomous Vehicle Development

WESTLAND, Mich.– Ford is transitioning its autonomous vehicle research into an advanced engineering program headed by 29-year Ford veteran Randy Visintainer and comprised of a global team that includes Ford Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto.

As Ford moves closer to autonomous vehicle development, the advanced engineering program headed by Visintainer takes them into the second of three phases that make the journey of taking autonomous driving technology to market. The second phase will include the testing of sensing and computing technology, and polishing algorithms.

The much-discussed Ford Smart Mobility plan umbrellas the advanced engineering team’s driver-assist technology focus areas that are intended to carry Ford vehicles in the direction of connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience and big data.

SBD North America determined that as of now, Ford vehicles dominate driver-assistance features in Four U.S. vehicle segments: the F-150 in the large-duty pickup segment; the Edge and Explorer in the midsize SUV segment; the Fusion in the midsize car segment; and the Taurus in the large car segment.

In the next five years Ford will spread driver-assist technologies across their product lineup to promote even more automated driving capability, According to Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development,

With driver-assist technologies such as active park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping aid and blind spot monitoring, it’s not hard to imagine the future as Ford moves closer to autonomous vehicle development.

Ford Moves Closer to Autonomous Vehicle Development

Ford is also collaborating with Silicon Valley start-ups and innovators to discover mobility solutions and extend them globally to millions of people.

One of the major Silicon Valley companies Ford is collaborating with is Carbon3D from Redwood City, CA., which created Continuous Liquid Interface Production Technology– a 3D printing technology that uses UV curable resins to grow parts 25 to 100 times faster than traditional 3D printing processes. Ford has used this technology to produce elastomer grommets for the Ford Focus Electric and damping bumper parts for the Transit Connect, and intends to use the technology to produce other high-quality automotive-grade parts.

By measure of Ford’s willingness to delve into research and advanced engineering at full speed, it only makes sense that these future vehicles will be of the highest quality. We see the technology Ford has come out with so far, and expect it to continue progressing. That’s why we’re loud and proud about the New Ford Cars or New Ford Trucks at our Westland Ford Dealership

Military Members Take Ford Vehicles for a Spin - 06/11/2015

Military Members Take Ford Vehicles for a Spin

WESTLAND, Mich.– There are many creative ways we can support our troops, but the best idea we’ve seen yet was letting American military members take Ford vehicles for a spin at the Ford Driving Freedom ride-and-drive event in Germany.

At Ford Driving Freedom, Ford handed over Mustang and F-150 keys to troops who are stationed across Europe and let them burn some rubber at Hockenheimring, the German Grand Prix track. The test-drive event gave military members a break from their day-to-day routine, but was still something exciting and invigorating to fit their appetite for the extreme.

By having military members take Ford vehicles for a spin at a central location like Hockenheimring, Ford was able to extend the event to troops stationed in many different areas of Europe. Military members weren’t the only ones to benefit from the occasion. The event provided Ford a rare opportunity to show off two of its most popular cars to men and women stationed overseas.

Overseas Military Sales Corporation– the only on-base, factory-authorized Ford Motor Company distributor to military personnel– also got in on the action by hosting a contest that generated 125 winners out of 300 entrants. The contest was another way Ford found to boost morale for U.S. military members who are away from their friends and family back home.

Military Members Take Ford Vehicles for a Spin

Ford has a close relationship with military members that started long before this event was put on. In 2014, the F-150 was the highest-selling vehicle to military members, and Overseas Military Sales Corporation was the world’s leading Mustang retailer. No wonder the Ford Driving Freedom event had such a wonderful turnout!

The Ford Driving Freedom event was a test-drive in itself, used by Ford to gauge how effective similar future events might be. However, considering how well things went this time around, we expect Ford to mimic the event in the future. But you don’t have to wait to test-drive a New Ford Vehicle like the Mustang or the F-150.
